Why I Started Sizzle.
Seven years ago, I dove headfirst into the advertising world. I quickly learned the ropes—design, creative concepting, copywriting, marketing, web development, and client relationships. I worked in agencies and as an independent contractor for clients of all kinds. While I gained invaluable experience, I also discovered something troubling: the advertising industry is fundamentally broken for small businesses.
Here’s what I mean.
Ad agencies often overpromise to win contracts, only to underdeliver once the deal is signed. Clients are left frustrated, paying full price for work that slows to a crawl.
Worse, most agencies are not small business experts—they have an “anyone willing to pay, is wlecome” mentality and will take anyone. But without specialization, they rely on time-consuming trial-and-error approaches to figure out what works, leaving small businesses footing the bill for their inefficiency.
The imbalance doesn’t stop there. Big-budget clients are always prioritized at ad agencies over small business clients. Leaving small bsuiness clients with limited access to creative resources. Adding to the frustration, agencies always book to many clients to their teams, stretching resources too thin. As a result, the small business clients are often the first to be overlooked and underserved.
And let’s not forget traditional fee structures. Many agencies take a percentage of their client’s total ad spend. This is ok when the client is massive with a huge budget but when it's a small business it simply does not work. This fee structure incentivizes them to spend more of the client’s money—regardless of results.
These practices create an experience for small businesses that’s disappointing, frustrating, financially unsustainable, and fundamentally unfair.
After witnessing countless small businesses repeat this cycle time and time again, I finally said, “Enough! I need to do something about this.”
